Fedor/Werdum fight in May.

Also, in this link, they discuss another card that could be in April with Hendo/Shields and Mousasi/Lawal. If I'm Strikeforce, I'm throwing all of those fights on the same card and just going for a blowout night. They have to generate interest, and a following for their guys (while they have them), they should put them all out there, for everyone to see.
You have this correct other than I think the fights are in April. But they are putting FEDOR/Werdum and Hendo/Shields on the same card. Strikeforce is going all out. Which is smart.

And Muckster, I have a bone to pick with you, in another thread you said Big Nog is the most Overrated fighter there is. Big Nog has taken beatings like no other fighter in the history of the planet. But his BJJ has always pulled out a win. Cain ended him, no argument, but the guy is the second greatest MMA fighter of all time. He has 5 losses. 3 to FEDOR, 1 to Mir and 1 to Cain. His record is something like 33-5. That is unmatched in MMA(except for FEDOR). Nog armbarred Hendo, Cro Cop, destroyed Randy, got pounded by FEDOR and still almost armbarred him. Big Nog is the second greatest fighter that ever lived. And he has 5 losses. FEDOR has 0 losses. Nobody in MMA has 0 losses. Watch this highlight. FEDOR was the underdog. Big Nog is a stud.

Greg, I don't know if you read the article or not, but it clearly states that Fedor will not be fighting in April on a Showtime card, I'll post part of the stroy.

Quote:
After weeks of doubt about the fighter's once-expected participation, Fedor Emelianenko will not, in fact, fight in April during Strikeforce's return to CBS airwaves.

According to a report from MMAFighting.com, M-1 officials today said at M-1 Selection Eastern European press conference that Emelianenko will fight Fabricio Werdum – but not until May.

Strikeforce officials have not confirmed plans for the April show, but as MMAjunkie.com (http://www.mmajunkie.com) reported on Wednesday, it could move to Showtime (or be delayed altogether) now that Emelianenko won't be involved.

As part of his contract with Strikeforce, Emelianenko's fights have to air on CBS rather than its premium-cable partner, Showtime, which has a fraction of the audience.

I heard this today. FEDOR isn't fighting in April. Hendo is. Against Shields. Hendo in round 1. But I'm bummed about FEDOR. The only bright spot is that FEDOR wants to renegotiate his strikeforce contract. I'm hoping he goes to the UFC. And fights Brock. But yes, FEDOR and his management are pissing me off.

I guess I have less respect for non-UFC stuff. He got whooped by Mir and now Cain. He barely beat Herring and has had quite a few controversial wins in UFC and other promotions. He's awesome at BJJ, no doubt. But winning fights because he tried tons of submissions against one of the worst champions of all time to me Ricco Rodriguez.... c'mon. Oh, and is there a reason you don't include his loss to Josh freakin' Barnett? Is it because Josh isn't in his weight class? Or because it was tournament style? And for the record, I had to read up on that one for sure.

So yes, he's a helluva fighter. I'm glad it's somebody else fighting this guy and not me. But I think his time has come and gone.

As you know, I have not seen every single fight this man has been in. I didn't even see any of his Pride fights when the occurred, only after the fact. Maybe I'd have a different view if I was watching them as he was doing them. Kind of like somebody that may look back at a guy like Arlovsky and not like what he accomplished by seeing some of his later fights. But I stand by my word. He's good, but he's overrated in the UFC. If I were any top contender, I would not be scared to fight this guy. And take that for what it is, as I'm guessing if you're a professional fighter, you're not scared to fight anybody.

I think part of the problem with Nog is that he has had so many fights already. He looks/acts/fights way older than he actually is, sometimes that helps, sometimes it doesn't.
The other issue for me is, Nog had a bigger advantage in Pride because of the extended round times, and they were more tolerant of the ground game, and were not quick to stand guys up.
That's not taking anything away from him, I actually like most of their rules better, but in this age of mma, that is primarily fought standing up, it's going to be hard for him to compete with these young, tough, fast guys.

I can agree with that, excluding liking the Pride rules more.

It's like I'm a prognosticator. I just dropped Arlovski's name, and bam he gets a contract.

I thought about that when I saw the article.

James Toney signed with the UFC.

I'm not going to post a link because this is garbage anyway.

Agreed! Signing almost any 41 year old doesn't make sense to me, regardless of his past and his current health/shape.

I like the signing if Toney fights at 205. Yes, he is over the hill, but his boxing is considered world class. I'm very interested to see how his boxing holds up. Obviously people are gonna shoot in on him. But I bet he has a good sprawl. He is a fighter. I've always been curious to see if a boxer can just naturally sprawl. I bet he can. His boxing is the best in the UFC by far. But can he check leg kicks? I love the signing. And I love that he says he wants to fight HW and beat the h*** out of Brock. He's cocky as h***. I like him.

His conditioning has been an issue in the past, even while he was boxing. Now, he's older, and in a sport now where you can't just stand and punch, I don't think he'll be able to last with any good fighter.

You don't give boxing its credit. Remember, Iceman dominated with standup and a sprawl. Boxing is a great base. Don't underestimate boxing.

I'm not underestimating his boxing at all, I'm just simply pointing out the reality that he is old, and most likely out of shape.
Might not want to underestimate those two....
